Verkehrsauskunft Österreich/VAO - Traffic Information Austria
As well as offering well-interconnected transition points
for commercial transport and comfortable passenger
transfers, it is also necessary to provide efficient
information and routing services.
In recent years, the „Verkehrsauskunft Österreich (VAO)
- Traffic Information Austria“ has been developed
in Austria. The „VAO“ is a joint intermodal traffic
information service for Austria providing comprehensive
traffic reports on the motorways.
Since the beginning of 2014, routing information as
well as other information covering different modes of
transport and transport interchanges has been provided
including, for example, recommendations for individual
travellers as well as for public transport users, transfer
options, Park & Ride facilities, cycle routes, bike rental,
car sharing, etc.
The transition from the competitive extension of
individual modes of transport to a coordinated
intermodal transport system in the interests of all
members of the travelling public is thus in full swing.
Modern information and communication technology
make a key contribution in this context.
It is now vitally important to ensure that the services
offered also work as consistently as possible across
national borders and that no new barriers to intermodal
transport emerge.
