Indonesian Masters 2011
With one more
hole to play,
the lightning
and downpour
in Jakarta had
forced Westwood to return to the
clubhouse when the fourth and final
round of what is believed to be the
first of many Indonesian Masters to
come was suspended for more than
one hour.
Westwood returned to par the last hole
and closed with a scorching 19-under-par
269 total to win the inaugural Asian Tour
event by three strokes.
On second place was Thailand’s
Thongchai Jaidee who closed with a solid
65 at Round 4, while third
place was shared between
Asian Tour newcomers Park
Hyun-bin of Korea and
Thitiphun Chuayprakong
of Thailand, along with
Bangladeshi Siddikur and
Australian Marcus Both, on
275.
THE TEE-SETTERS:
More on Golfing!
Tee Set Golf is a social
club which plays
regularly every Sunday
around the many
fantastic courses that
Jakarta has to offer. Mixing it
up with a variety of games and
competition, Teeset is a great way
to relax and enjoy the weekend with
friendly people and great courses.
Membership is FREE, so join them
for a swing. To tease your curiosity,
find updates from their latest tee offs
APRIL 3 NEwSLETTER:
Kemayoran
A busy Saturday night with various events
such as Hogfest and the Johnny Walker
Lounge Party had no doubt effected the
numbers available for a round of golf the
following day. The Kemayoran course is
unique in that it has a very tough front
nine and a very friendly back nine. Of the
12 players that showed up, the average
score on the front was 53 but on the back
nine the average improved to 46. One
particular flight made up of James Noller,
Mike Taylor, Peter Reichlmeier and Sam
Zappia had an average improvement
between them of a massive 18 strokes
per man. Tough competition for most
improved but James won it in the end
with 21. The most improved record was in
fact established on this course by Shawn
Berg on his first outing with Tee Set a few
years back. The 26 stroke improvement
achieved will be hard to beat in the future.
Skirts were in plague numbers and mostly
on hole #3 which is a horribly long par 5
with the red tees about 180 yards ahead
of the blues. Just when you thought it
couldn’t get any worst the next hole is the
longest and narrowest par 4 in Jakarta.
Richard Rowe when last he played it took
10 off the tee box.
APRIL 10 NEwSLETTER:
Cilangkap
Last Sunday, with the absence of El
Presidenti and his treasurer who were out
of the country enjoying all that Thailand
(golf…) has to offer, it came down to
Mike Taylor and Liza to take over the
running of Tee Set. They did a great job
under very trying conditions. Firstly the
starter whined about 9 groups showing
up when we had only booked 5 (until he
was tipped and then he was all smiles)
but this paled into insignificance when
it was discovered the course had run
out of beer before we’d even got all the
groups off tee box #1. I apologize to those
few who might have enjoyed the course
(if any?) but Tee Set will not return to
Cilangkap during my tenure as President
for such a fatal flaw in their management
organizational skills as running out of
aiming fluid. The course does have some
pluses such as cheap green fees and ease
of access from the suburbs but that’s about
it. Sorry Dave.
Nevertheless we had a great turn out
with 34 players. New players (sorry for
wrong spelling if any) were Brent Coller
and John Herbert. Welcome back after a
couple of weeks off or more were Pieter
Groen, Dale Potter, Troy Stephenson
(now a new father) Ed Bender Jr, Alinda,
Marni Fisher, Robin James Martin, Alan
Fenwick, Mel Meeds, Alex Holl, Sue and
Marshal Jones, Anthony King, Frank
Musgrove and a special welcome back to
David and Dewi Ammerman who last
played Tee Set four Presidents ago.
APRIL 17 NEwSLETTER:
Jagorawi
Another great competitive day of golf
at Jagorawi courtesy of the Interleague
Committee and Jagorawi Golf Club
management. Matt actually got the final
team scores correct this time which makes
it a first. Thanks guys for organizing
the day and Jack for the Bloody Mary’s.
However we did miss the Elton John
renditions from Edwin, having to make
do instead with Viggo’s tear jerking
baritone ballads. Please Gary, remember
to bring your iPod sound system next
Interleague. Tee Set fought hard for the
honors against the Sandbaggers but
narrowly went down 4 - 6. Nevertheless
we showed again that Tee Set is no push
over. Mike Taylor got the nearest to the
pin award on the day but still managed
to miss his birdie putt. Lucky for the
Sandbaggers he wasn’t in one of the match
play groupings because he shot a nett 62.
Tee Set showed up in numbers as usual
with 25 players. Thanks Edwin for spiting
the group onto two tee boxes to smooth
the start.
