Ewa Jankowska,
dyrektor Szkoły Podstawowej nr 2
w Rybniku:
Dzieci miały mnóstwo zajęć, więc
mogły się bardzo wszechstronnie
rozwijać. Przy okazji kupiliśmy trochę
sprzętu dydaktycznego dla szkoły
Our children had a broad range
to pick from. The extra classes
were a method of stimulating their
comprehensive education.
We could buy some brand new school
equipment, too
» Ewa Kuczyńska-Tomiło, vice-head of the 770-student Mechanic & Electric Technology School arranged a trip
to the Słowacki theatre in Krakow. “It turned out that some of our students, particularly those of the not-so-well-off
families, had never been to a theatre before! I thought we just had to do it. I believe it was the one and only visit
to a theatre for some of them”, Ewa Kuczyńska-Tomiło says. ”– Moreover, we arranged a couple of lectures for
the students and their parents alike, dealing with the issues of drugs and dangerous cults. Policemen were among
the lecturers. Extra Polish and foreign language classes, trips and study tours complement the range offered.”
No 2 primary school students had good reason to be satisfied as well. Each child was able to go for a trip for
free: this idea was particularly popular with the parents. There were activities underway all the time in school,
including on Saturdays. The range of extracurricular offers included music and arts classes, interest groups and
workshops. “ We have benefited from the project. Our kids had a very broad range to pick from. The extra classes
were a fantastic method of stimulating their comprehensive education. At the same time, we had the possibility
of purchasing some brand new school equipment”, Rybnik No 2 Primary School head Ewa Jankowska says.
The teachers availed themselves of the opportunities the project created as well. They could attend creative
thinking courses and learn how to exercise non-standard methods of communication with the students. Another
important goal of the course was to encourage the teachers to make an attempt to forgo teaching the conventional
lesson material and focus on showing the children how to view life and the world around them instead.
“What we wanted to do was to broaden the students’ horizons and improve the exam pass rate. Follow-up research
has shown that the objectives have been accomplished”, Katarzyna Korba says. The recent exam series
has shown that the quality of teaching has increased. ◗
