Goths used for wiping components or small areas of equipment surfaces shall be clean, lint-free and<br />
free from traces of oil or grease. Cotton, linen or paper re commonly used materials.<br />
5.4 Desiccating Materials<br />
Desiccating materials are sometimes placed in equipment after cleaning to prevent any corrosion, or<br />
other deterioration due to humidity of air that may be present during the period of shipment or storage.<br />
The following may be used:<br />
- alumina<br />
- silica gels<br />
- molecular sieve<br />
- regenerated clays<br />
Certain colour additives may be included in the products to give an indication of the moisture content<br />
5.5 Drying/Purging Gas<br />
The gas used shall be dry air or nitrogen and free from oil, grease and particulate matter. Air is<br />
considered suitable when its content of oil, grease and particulate matter is less than 1 mg/m3 and<br />
dry if its dew point value is equal or lower than -40°C at 1.013 bar. For continuous purging of<br />
equipment, using air, filtered atmospheric air compressed by a non-oil lubricated compressor is<br />
recommended.
