Appendix F: Cleaning of parts in an ultrasonic bath using an aqueous cleaning<br />

agent<br />

1. Size of Parts<br />

Generally up to 500 mm, depending on the capacity/dimensions of the bath.<br />

2. Material of Parts<br />

Steel, copper alloys. Cleaning of outer/inner surfaces.<br />

3. Cleaning Method<br />

Immersion in ultrasonic bath with/without pre-cleaning.<br />

3.1 Cleaning Agent<br />

20 % agent in water concentrate pH = 10<br />

3.2 Pre-cleaning<br />

In bath with or without ultrasonic.<br />

Duration : 15 min.<br />

Temperature : approx 60°C.<br />

Solution circulated by pump or slight manual movement of the basket containing the parts.<br />

3.3 Cleaning<br />

In ultrasonic bath (same conditions as in pre-cleaning bath).<br />

If oil spots are visible on the solution surface, this solution has to be renewed as well as the solution in<br />

The pre-cleaning bath. Used solution has to be disposed.<br />

4. Rinsing<br />

Immersion in bath/spraying as an alternative; with at approx. 40 °C.<br />

5. Drying<br />

Purging with dry, oil free air or nitrogen.<br />

6. Inspection Method:<br />

Certificated spot checks by wipe test or water break test.<br />

7. Conservation of cleanliness<br />

Packed in clean plastic bag and sealed.<br />

8. Labelling<br />

With a label “Cleaned for oxygen service. Keep free from oil and grease. Inspection date/stamp”;
