3. Twisted-Pair Cable|<br />

Bend Radius<br />

It is important not to change the geometry of the cable. Bend radius is the maximum<br />

arc into which a cable can be looped before its data transmission is impaired.<br />

The minimum bend radius for UTP and F/UTP cable is four times the cable<br />

diameter. The bend radius for multipair cable should follow the manufacturer’s<br />

guidelines. The minimum bend radius for cord cable (patch cord) is one times the<br />

cord cable diameter.<br />

When you bend a cable too much, you separate the pairs within the jacketing, which<br />

can result in performance degradation. Cables are manufactured very carefully.<br />

There is a specific twist scheme/pair lay within the jacketing of the cable.<br />

Bending it too much will disturb the benefits of the cable’s manufacturing.<br />

Exceeding the bend radius could kink or crimp the copper, causing signal reflections.<br />
