Description: This is a closed-set, pencil/paper, multiple choice word recognition
test. It consists of two 100-word lists. The CCT is particularly sensitive to high
frequency hearing loss and is, therefore, considered to be useful in hearing aid
evaluations. The first and second halves of list one are equivalent and, therefore,
half lists can be given with confidence. This is not true of list two, however.

Children’s Auditory Performance Scale (CHAPS)

Recommended Age: Minimum of 7 years
Description: The CHAPS is a scaled questionnaire that can be used to quantify
the observed listening behaviors of children 7 and older. The CHAPS can be
used as a screening device to help identify children who are experiencing
listening difficulties due to hearing loss or to identify children who are at risk for
auditory processing disorders. It can also be used to help determine individual
management strategies for children with listening difficulties caused by hearing
loss or auditory processing disorders and as a pre- and post- therapy evaluation
device.
