A general survey of the major sectors of the economy and
the aims and perspectives of the development policies adopted by
the Senegalese and Gambian governments, with a comparison of the
two. The author concludes that the periodically discussed, albeit
unpopular, notion of integrating the two countries into one
state would make little economic difference, but points to areas
where both countries would stand to benefit from increased cooperation.
