by the canned food industry in Dakar. The author finds that<br />

even though conditions of employment in the city are more regular,<br />

with higher salaries, social benefits and some trade union protection,<br />

the resemblances between urban and rural workers are more<br />

striking than the differences. The study, based on field work,<br />

questionnaires and interviews, details the recruitment, salaries<br />

and work conditions of the rural women and their lives within<br />
