First of a series of documents by CNRA researchers.<br />
This document presents a set of five articles and a<br />
bibliography on rural economy and sociology. The first<br />
article by J. Faye discusses an approach to rural development<br />
research in Senegal based on a combination of onstation<br />
technical research and on-farm research problems<br />
at the farm level, using the framework of the "Unites<br />
Experimentales." The third abstract by P. Nernus and E.<br />
Tchakerian outlines the technico-economic approach to<br />
integrating crop and livestock production. In the fourth<br />
paper, M. Fall summarizes ISRA's approach to the study of<br />
farm economics. Finally, M.B. Cattin discusses management<br />
advise to farmers.<br />

Past and present experiences with technology transfer and appropriate<br />
technology are discussed. The paper is designed to serve<br />
as background information for a regional model and simulation of<br />
