6. ROBERT W. HUGHES SCHOLARSHIP. A memorial<br />
to Robert W. Hughes (1821-1901), editor, author and jurist; Judge<br />
<strong>of</strong> the United States District Court for the Eastern District <strong>of</strong> Vir-<br />
ginia (1874-1898) ; Doctor <strong>of</strong> Laws <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> William and<br />
Mary, 1881. Founded in <strong>1921</strong> by his son, Robert IVT,. Hughes LL. D.,<br />
<strong>of</strong> Norfolk, Va. This scholarship will exempt Virginia students<br />
from the payment <strong>of</strong> all college fees, except matriculation, student<br />
activities fees, and athletic fees. It is awarded by the faculty upon<br />
the basis <strong>of</strong> merit.<br />
OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS<br />
1. CORCORAN SCHOLARSHIP. Founded in 1867 by W. W.<br />
Corcoran (i 798-1888), Washington, D. C. This scholarship will<br />
exempt Virginia students from the payment <strong>of</strong> all fees, except<br />
matriculation, student activities fees, and athletic fees, and non-<br />
Virginia students from the tuition fee. It is awarded by the faculty<br />
on the basis <strong>of</strong> merit and is open to all students.<br />
2. SOUTTER SCHOLARSHIP. Founded in 1869 by James<br />
T. Soutter, <strong>of</strong> New York. This scholarship will exempt Virginia<br />
students from the payment <strong>of</strong> all fees, except matriculation, student<br />
activities fees, and athletic fees, and non-Virginia students from the<br />
tuition fee. It is awarded by the faculty on the basis <strong>of</strong> merit and<br />
is open to all students.<br />
3. GRAVES SCHOLARSHIP. Founded in 1872 by the Rev.<br />
Dr. Robert J. Graves, <strong>of</strong> Pennsylvania. This scholarship will<br />
exempt Virginia students from the payment <strong>of</strong> all fees, except<br />
matriculation, student activities fees, and athletic fees, and non-<br />
Virginia students from the tuition fee. It is awarded by the faculty<br />
on the basis <strong>of</strong> merit and is open to all students.<br />
4. JAMES BARRON HOPE SCHOLARSHIP. Founded in<br />
1897 by Robert M. Hughes, LL. D., <strong>of</strong> Norfolk, Va. This scholar-<br />
