curriculum, syllabus<br />

Several schools have started integrating Kapampangan<br />

in their academic programs, following the lead of <strong>Holy</strong><br />

<strong>Angel</strong> <strong>University</strong>, which has Kapampangan History and Culture<br />

as required subject in three Colleges and incorporated<br />

in some subjects in high school and elementary, and<br />

<strong>Angel</strong>es <strong>University</strong> Foundation, which offers<br />

Kapampangan Literature classes<br />

The <strong>University</strong> of the Philippines-Pampanga is conducting<br />

workshops on teaching Kapampangan literature,<br />

while the San Fernando City Council recently passed an<br />

ordinance requiring the integration of Kapampangan history<br />

and culture in the high school and grade school curricula<br />

in all public and private schools in the city.<br />

Councilor Jaime T. Lazatin, chair of the Sanggunian’s education<br />

committee, sponsored the resolution.<br />

The local government of the City of San Fernando and the<br />

Center for Kapampangan Studies recently co-sponsored a syllabus<br />

NHI, NCCA Chairman Ambeth Ocampo speaks<br />

before business executives during a recent visit<br />

at the Center.<br />

Superintendents, supervisors and school principals from San<br />

Fernando attend workshop at the Center<br />

development workshop for Department of Education officials,<br />

school officials and teachers. The Center presented syllabus outlines<br />

and promised to assist in the provision of teaching materials<br />

and teacher training.<br />

“Cid” Reyes, a native of Apalit,<br />

recently donated to the Center a rare<br />

copy of The London General Evening<br />

Post dated April 23, 1763, which<br />

headlined the British invasion of<br />

Manila on September 23, 1762. The<br />

article was excerpted from the<br />

personal journals of Gen. William<br />

Draper, the commanding officer of<br />

the invading British naval fleet. It<br />

described Kapampangans as “a fierce<br />

and barbarous people” who helped<br />

the Spaniards defend the colony.<br />

The British Occupation led to the<br />

transfer of the capital from Manila<br />

to Bacolor, Pampanga.<br />
