The field investigation was initiated by Kate Wilson, Inspector of Ancient Monuments,<br />

<strong>Sockburn</strong>. The earthwork survey was undertaken by Marcus Jecock <strong>an</strong>d Dave Went<br />

The <strong>archaeological</strong> background <strong>an</strong>d historical sources were researched by DaveWent,<br />
who also undertook the earthwork <strong>an</strong>alysis in collaboration with Marcus Jecock <strong>an</strong>d<br />
with advice from other members of the Archaeological Survey <strong>an</strong>d Investigation team<br />
based inYork. The earthwork pl<strong>an</strong> (Figure 20) was drawn by DaveWent. The location<br />
maps (Figures 1 <strong>an</strong>d 2) were produced by Philip Sinton.<br />

the hall <strong>an</strong>d grounds, <strong>an</strong>d in particular to Mary Gatheral, for allowing access to the<br />
