Condition: Poor – le<strong>an</strong>ing <strong>an</strong>d the inscription is heavily eroded.<br />
Note: In 1827 Jack Hutchinson lost two daughters to consumption, Bessy <strong>an</strong>d J<strong>an</strong>e, both in their<br />
20s.They are buried at <strong>Sockburn</strong> close to their mother J<strong>an</strong>e <strong>an</strong>d aunt Margaret.A tombstone<br />
was erected by their ‘afflicted Father’ (Barker 2000, 839). The final two lines of the inscription are<br />
visible towards the foot of the stone, but not legible.<br />

Condition: Subsiding. Clear, but locally eroded inscription.<br />
Note: Surtees records the inscription as ‘…of Whitton, who died July the 18th, 1786, in the 76th<br />
year of her age’ (Surtees, R. 1823, 250).<br />
