the cross shaft mentioned by Boyle (1892)<br />
then in <strong>Sockburn</strong> <strong>Hall</strong>. (see No.14).<br />

looking over shoulder, two pairs of legs,<br />
fragment of triquetra knot.<br />
Lower part of cross shaft. One face<br />
survives – st<strong>an</strong>ding spear-m<strong>an</strong> with helmet<br />
<strong>an</strong>d shield.<br />
Part of cross shaft, in two pieces. Broken,<br />
recut <strong>an</strong>d worn. Paired figures in two<br />
p<strong>an</strong>els above <strong>an</strong>d below. Ring-chain <strong>an</strong>d<br />
plait, <strong>an</strong>imal head terminals. Brock depicts<br />
the upper part of this stone, then found ‘at<br />
<strong>Sockburn</strong> Church’ (1888, 409 & Fig.15).<br />

plait <strong>an</strong>d above stag. Backward looking<br />
quadruped below plait p<strong>an</strong>els. Plait <strong>an</strong>d<br />

ch<strong>an</strong>cel by Knowles in 1900 (1905, 113).
