Some health <strong>in</strong>surers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands have begun dispatch<strong>in</strong>g prescribed medication by<br />
mail. This has led to concern <strong>in</strong> pharmacy circles. One company (James Telesuper) sells<br />
OTCs by mail catalogue. This practice is legal because OTCs can officially be supplied by a<br />
druggist. Druggists are currently request<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> right to dispense prescribed OTCs.<br />
Teleshopp<strong>in</strong>g of non-prescription <strong>medic<strong>in</strong>al</strong> <strong>products</strong> is not found <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ne<strong>the</strong>rlands.<br />
2) United K<strong>in</strong>gdom:<br />
The Medic<strong>in</strong>es Control Agency (MCA) is not aware of evidence of supply by teleshopp<strong>in</strong>g. It<br />
is aware of some supply of herbal <strong>medic<strong>in</strong>al</strong> <strong>products</strong> by mail order and is consider<strong>in</strong>g<br />
whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>re is a need to clarify <strong>the</strong> legal position.<br />
Summary<br />
It can be concluded that both distance sell<strong>in</strong>g and teleshopp<strong>in</strong>g are not permitted<br />
for herbal <strong>medic<strong>in</strong>al</strong> <strong>products</strong> <strong>in</strong> most countries; <strong>in</strong> several cases however <strong>the</strong>y are<br />
allowed under certa<strong>in</strong> conditions.
