Michael Battle and Stephen Edmondson
Accept Calls to New Positions
The Rev. Dr. Michael Battle, Associate Dean for
Academic Affairs, recently accepted a call to be
Provost and Canon Theologian at the
Cathedral Center for the Diocese of Los Angeles.
He will work with the Rt. Rev. Jon Bruno, VTS
‘77, Bishop of the Diocese of Los Angeles.
During his time at Virginia Seminary, Dr. Battle
made signifi cant contributions to the work of the
VTS racial and ethnic diversity initiative, and his
work on national and international committees
and consultations has helped to strengthen the
Seminary’s ties with other dioceses and
provinces of the Anglican Communion.
Dr. Battle and his family moved to California in
July.
The Rev. Dr. Stephen Edmondson, Associate
Professor of Church History, is the new rector
of St. Thomas Church, McLean, Virginia. He
will teach church history at VTS in the fall of the
2007-08 academic year.
“Ironically,” Dr. Edmondson says, “my work in
teaching church history has drawn from me a
desire to be more involved in the active life of the
ministry of the Church. I feel a deep commitment
to exploring and clarifying the place of intellectual
and theological ministry in the life of the
Church outside of academic institutions.”
Dr. Edmondson will serve as a VTS fi eld education
supervisor and will teach as an adjunct
professor as the need arises and his time permits.
