The Class of 1951’s International and Cross Cultural Internship Fund
provides fi nancial assistance to students and faculty who seek cross cultural
study, immersion, and internship experiences. Above, seminarians Fred Clarkson,
A strong call for Christian
awareness and responsibility as stewards
of God’s creation was heard on
the Holy Hill during the 2007 Mollegen
Forum. The Water of Life: Earth’s Water
Crisis explored the ways a theology
of water can help address the growing
problems of insuffi cient water around
the globe.
As an expression of the
Seminary’s strong commitment to an
ongoing discussion of issues related
to theology and the environment, the
Seminary announced last year that The
Kreitler Environmental Fund was being
established at Virginia Seminary by
VIRGINIA SEMINARY JOURNAL AUGUST 2007
the Rev. Canon Peter Gwillim Kreitler,
VTS’69, his wife Catharine B. Kreitler,
brother Jay Kreitler, and friends, in
honor of John Henry Kreitler and Muriel
Gwillim Kreitler, parents of Peter
and Jay Kreitler.
When fully funded, The Kreitler
Environmental Fund will be used
to explore and support ways in which
one’s appreciation and stewardship
of the environment are enhanced by
informed theological beliefs. As Dean
Horne said in announcing this initiative,
“It is vitally important for those
who would be leaders in the Church
to understand the responsibility we
have to safeguard ‘this fragile earth,
our island home’”.
The fi rst formal program
under The Kreitler Environmental Fund
will be the inaugural Kreitler Environmental
Lecture planned for Earth Day,
April 22, 2008, at Virginia Seminary.
Future initiatives will include the
acquisition of environmental study
resources, seminars, fellowships, and
scholarships.
These are just three areas
where the generosity of our friends
and graduates helps the Seminary
pursue its historic and timeless mission
to the wider world. These gifts
will clearly have an impact far beyond
the Holy Hill.
