Frustule disciform ; valve orbicular, having a marginal crown of<br />

gibbous prominences, bearing straight elongated robust spines, with<br />

smaller spines scattered between them.<br />

This genus which belongs to the Xanthwpyxidece, according to De Toni,<br />

has a vague resemblance to Coscinodiscus Sol. I should not like to affirm<br />

decisively that it is a diatom.<br />

Only a single form, G. tropica Schutt (fig. 264), the hairs of which are<br />

of the same length but of an unequal thickness, and G. radiata Schutt<br />

(fig. 264), the hairs of which are of a very unequal length.<br />
