barbering<br />
technician<br />
This is a combination of classroom instruction<br />
and laboratory opportunities that will develop<br />
academic and professional knowledge as well<br />
as skills <strong>re</strong>qui<strong>re</strong>d for job acquisition, <strong>re</strong>tention,<br />
and advancement. This program emphasizes<br />
training in safety, sanitation, shaving, hair<br />
cutting, <strong>re</strong>ception, and sales, and will c<strong>re</strong>ate<br />
opportunities for small business ownership.<br />
The curriculum is designed to give an<br />
overview of the barbering industry, licensing,<br />
and the opportunities for professional growth.<br />
Students who successfully complete this<br />
500-hour course will be eligible to sit for the<br />
New York State Licensing Exam. Students must<br />
be at least 18 years of age to take the New York<br />
State Barbering Licensing exam.<br />
Course available: Grades 11 or 12 Course length: 1 year<br />
Placement: Regular C<strong>re</strong>dits: Up to 4 CTE c<strong>re</strong>dits a year<br />
earning high school c<strong>re</strong>dits<br />
Students completing this one-year course may <strong>re</strong>ceive up to 4 CTE c<strong>re</strong>dits OR distributed c<strong>re</strong>dits:<br />
1.0 c<strong>re</strong>dit Ca<strong>re</strong>er and Financial Management<br />
ca<strong>re</strong>er opportunities<br />
Upon completion of this course, students will<br />
be qualified to seek entry-level positions in the<br />
personal ca<strong>re</strong> and barbering industries while<br />
allowing for continued personal academic and<br />
professional growth. Students will be able to<br />
work as barbers, start their own barbering<br />
business, or participate as a sales <strong>re</strong>p<strong>re</strong>sentative<br />
in the barbering industry.<br />

may participate in supervised, <strong>re</strong>al-world,<br />
work-based learning offerings that include<br />
