HOW tO aPPLy<br />

Request an application from<br />

the high school counselors,<br />

download an application or<br />

apply online at www.barrytech.org.<br />

2Complete the application<br />

with a guidance counselor<br />

as well as with a pa<strong>re</strong>nt<br />

or guardian. (The signatu<strong>re</strong> of a<br />

pa<strong>re</strong>nt or guardian is <strong>re</strong>qui<strong>re</strong>d.)<br />

3<br />

The district will submit the<br />

application, along with all<br />

academic, attendance, and<br />

health information, to the Central<br />

Registration Office at Barry Tech.<br />

4<br />

The admission process<br />

involves a comp<strong>re</strong>hensive<br />

<strong>re</strong>view of each student’s<br />

school <strong>re</strong>cords, including<br />

attendance, transcripts, <strong>re</strong>port<br />

cards, test sco<strong>re</strong>s, comments from<br />

school personnel, and health<br />

<strong>re</strong>cords. (Occasionally, students<br />

may need to be interviewed.)<br />

New applications will<br />

be accepted beginning<br />

January 1, 2012.<br />

Juniors who enroll in a 2-year<br />

program a<strong>re</strong> given priority.<br />

WHen tO aPPLy<br />

The best time for students to submit their applications is in 10th<br />

grade when they a<strong>re</strong> planning their 11th-grade courses in January/<br />

February.<br />

To ensu<strong>re</strong> a seat in the course, applications for enrollment<br />

in September 2012 should be <strong>re</strong>ceived by the <strong>Nassau</strong> <strong>BOCES</strong><br />

<strong>re</strong>gistrar, with all cor<strong>re</strong>sponding paperwork, by April 1, 2012.<br />

Barry Tech will consider applications <strong>re</strong>ceived after April 1,<br />

throughout the summer, and at the beginning of the school year<br />

on a first-come, first-served basis. (Please be awa<strong>re</strong> that students’<br />

first choice of courses may be unavailable due to class size<br />

limitations.)<br />

<strong>re</strong>gular ca<strong>re</strong>er education courses a<strong>re</strong> for students who:<br />

• achieve at grade level.<br />

• have completed many of the graduation <strong>re</strong>qui<strong>re</strong>ments for a<br />

Regents diploma.<br />

• work well in a class of 20–25 students.<br />

• plan to seek further education or employment in their chosen<br />

fields after graduation.<br />

intensive Skills Courses a<strong>re</strong> for special-needs students.<br />

these courses:<br />

• provide individualized instruction and support.<br />

• help students develop the character traits necessary for<br />

successful employment.<br />

• p<strong>re</strong>pa<strong>re</strong> students for employment or ca<strong>re</strong>er training after high<br />

school.<br />

• meet all state-mandated <strong>re</strong>qui<strong>re</strong>ments for ca<strong>re</strong>er education.<br />

• <strong>re</strong>view Individualized Education Program (IEP) <strong>re</strong>qui<strong>re</strong>ments<br />

as part of the enrollment process.<br />

• offer class sizes of 15 students with 1 teacher and 1 teacher aide.<br />
