11.3 Mr Harry Chan suggested forming a long-term planning committee comprising distinguished members to lead the
Society into the future.
11.4 Emeritus Professor Kiang felt that the Society should plan to acquire its own property after so many years of leasing.
11.5 Mr Anwarul Haque (H0236M) pointed out that the “NUSS” brand name should be used independently, and not “subsumed”
under “NUS”, for any public event organised by the Society.
11.6 In response to a query by Mr Lim Soo Hwee (L2939G) regarding the election of the Society’s President by popular vote,
Mr Mohan suggested he table a fresh resolution at the next AGM. Such a resolution would require a two-third majority
to pass as it involved amending the Constitution.
11.7 Mr GS Rengarajoo (GA135G) requested that Associate Members be given two seats in the MC so that they could actively
participate in the running of the Society.
Mr Mohan commented that the right to vote and to be office bearers remain vested in Ordinary Members. Associate
Members who wished to contribute to the Society could participate in the various Sub-Committees.
Mr Mohan urged Associate Members to put up a strong case for this matter to the MC to consider.
11.8 In reply to enquiries on HR matters by Mr Andrew Teo Neng Wee (TA823C), Mr Lai replied:
1. the staff turnover of the Society had stabilised. A few years ago, it was fairly high.
2. the HR function had been delegated to the Executive Committee comprising the President, Vice-President, Honorary
Secretary and Honorary Treasurer.
11.9 There being no other matters raised, Mr Mohan declared the voting closed. He called for a recess for the votes to be
counted.
12. VOTING RESULTS
12.1 Mr Mohan declared the following candidates elected to the new Management Committee for the term 2006/2007:
1. Mohan Balagopal 5. Edward Stanley Tay
2. Vincent Rasa Benedict 6. Teo Chin Tuan
3. Ong Pin Sam 7. Yee Woon Yim
4. Francis Pavri (Dr) 8. Yip Kum Fei
12.2 Mr Mohan noted that Mr Wilfred Kwok and Ms Neo Chia Reei were not re-elected. He took the opportunity to thank
them for their contributions to the MC and the Society and hoped that they would continue to contribute to the Society
through active participation in the various Sub-Committees.
12.3 The meeting concluded at 11.15 pm with the Chairperson thanking the members for their attendance and views, and the
staff for their effort in making the meeting a successful event.
