not to be technically plausible.<br />

Regard<strong>in</strong>g the data collection methods, multiple sources and modes <strong>of</strong> data or ‘triangulation’<br />

are utilized to ensure <strong>in</strong>ternal validity as well as to m<strong>in</strong>imize the biases, which may steal <strong>in</strong>to<br />

the process <strong>of</strong> draw<strong>in</strong>g conclusions (Y<strong>in</strong>, 1994). A general prescription has been to pick<br />

triangulation sources that have different biases, different strengths, so they can complement<br />

one another. In the first place, the author collected and studied pert<strong>in</strong>ent archival data, such<br />

as company pr<strong>of</strong>iles, annual reports, <strong>in</strong>ternal publications, press releases and employee<br />

feedback reports, so as to better understand the transition <strong>of</strong> change and how extant<br />

communication strategies go about. Also, a review <strong>of</strong> these materials facilitated the creation<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>terview questions.<br />

In addition, the semi-structured <strong>in</strong>terviews served as an essential source <strong>of</strong> case study<br />

evidence to ga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>sights <strong>in</strong> support <strong>of</strong> the archival <strong>in</strong>formation. This provided the<br />

<strong>in</strong>terviewees greater freedom <strong>in</strong> express<strong>in</strong>g the issues that they felt were most relevant from<br />

their own po<strong>in</strong>ts <strong>of</strong> view, potentially unravel<strong>in</strong>g issues not envisaged at the <strong>in</strong>terview design<br />

stage. In this study, twelve <strong>in</strong>terviews were conducted. Of those, one top executive, three<br />

senior managers, one <strong>in</strong>ternal senior consultant and one services assistant, who were <strong>in</strong>volved<br />

<strong>in</strong> the communication strategy <strong>of</strong> the Consignia brand and bus<strong>in</strong>ess status changes, were<br />

<strong>in</strong>terviewed on a face-to-face basis. And the other six <strong>in</strong>terviewees, who were mostly <strong>in</strong>ternal<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess consultants, contributed a wide range <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation through on-l<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong>terviews.<br />

<strong>The</strong> semi-structured <strong>in</strong>terview schedule used for face-to-face <strong>in</strong>terviews <strong>in</strong>cluded twelve to<br />

n<strong>in</strong>eteen questions, and each <strong>in</strong>terview took approximately thirty-five to forty-five m<strong>in</strong>utes.<br />

Due to the <strong>in</strong>terviewee’s frantic schedules, the on-l<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong>terview, or the electronic mail<br />

<strong>in</strong>terview, was regarded as an only appropriate option to obta<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>formation. Not only could<br />

a fewer number <strong>of</strong> open <strong>in</strong>terview questions be <strong>in</strong>quired, but also the semi-structured format<br />

became more <strong>of</strong> structured or non-<strong>in</strong>teractive. Written responses received were very useful<br />

and, to some certa<strong>in</strong> extent, straight to the po<strong>in</strong>t. <strong>The</strong> <strong>in</strong>terviewees were made aware that the<br />

<strong>in</strong>terviews would be a part <strong>of</strong> a larger effort to assess the success and failure <strong>of</strong><br />

communication strategies fac<strong>in</strong>g the change schemes. Each <strong>in</strong>terviewee was also promised<br />

confidentiality.<br />
