language modules, there are few prescribed sequences of modules. However, there are overall specifications to ensure not only that you take sufficient modules in your chosen subject overall, but that you progress in the course of your studies until you are taking predominantly honours level modules. It is vital that you are familiar with these requirements as these will affect the pathway choices you are able to make. Some modules are core, which means you must take and achieve a pass in order to continue your studies; some are compulsory, which means you must take them but a fail mark will not necessary prevent you from progressing, as long as you gain sufficient credits overall to progress; some requirements differ according to your circumstances, eg there may be different requirements for native speakers of the language studied. The full requirements for each of our programmes are set out on the School’s website at: http://www.sllf.qmul.ac.uk/undergraduate/programme_regulations.html. The core and compulsory modules are summarised below but you will see from the full requirements that you will need to take more than just these modules to qualify for your degree. Please note that more than one set of regulations may apply to you. Catalan The following modules are required for students of Catalan within the programme Hispanic Studies and Catalan Language: First Year For joint honours students CAT110 Introductory Catalan (core) Second Year For joint students CAT512 Catalan II Intensive (core) Final Year: For joint honours students CAT601 Catalan III (core) Comparative Literature The following modules are required for single and joint honours students of Comparative Literature: First Year For joint and single honours students COM/100 The Scene of Teaching (compulsory) COM/101 Introduction to Literature: Texts and Contexts (compulsory) COM/102 Introduction to Comparison (compulsory) Second Year For joint and single honours students COM/200 The Scene of Reading (compulsory) Final Year: For joint and single honours students COM/300 The Scene of Writing (compulsory) European Studies The following modules are required for students of European Studies: First Year SML/002 European Culture and Society (compulsory) Other modules chosen must have a recognisable European element to count towards a degree title including ‘European Studies’. The modules overleaf will be accepted by the School. Please note that inclusion in this list does not imply any guarantee of a place being 14
available - you will need to find out from the relevant School their procedures for registering, and must meet the relevant pre-requisite. Modules within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film: Only content modules offered by departments outside your core language(s) will be counted towards a ‘European Studies’ title. However, non-European related options, such as those on Latin American literature, culture and film do NOT count. All other School of Languages, Linguistics and Film modules are otherwise eligible. The following modules from Schools outside the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film are also eligible to count towards a title of ‘European Studies’.
