D INTERNATIONAL USAR COORDINATION<br />

D1 UN OCHA Responsibilities<br />

D1.1 Preparedness<br />

1. Function as the <strong>INSARAG</strong> Secretariat;<br />

2. Advocate and promote International USAR preparedness;<br />

3. Facilitate and coordinate the development of internationally accepted USAR<br />

methodology;<br />

4. Act as focal point for <strong>INSARAG</strong> related issues within the UN;<br />

5. Maintain the international USAR Directory on the <strong>INSARAG</strong> website.<br />

D1.2 Mobilisation<br />

1. Activate the VO:<br />

1.1. Provide continuous updates regarding casualties and damage, entry<br />

points and procedures, specific requests for assistance;<br />

1.2. Inform all international participants of any special cultural, religious or<br />

traditional practices of the affected country, weather, safety and security<br />

issues;<br />

2. Work closely with the affected country to ensure the timely release of a<br />

request for international assistance;<br />

3. Communicate with UN representatives in the affected country;<br />

4. Deploy an UNDAC team if required;<br />

5. Request UNDAC Support Modules, as required.<br />

D1.3 Operations<br />

1. Manage the VO and post regular situation updates;<br />

2. UNDAC team is required to establish (if not already done) and maintain a<br />

RDC and OSOCC;<br />

3. Provide support to the UNDAC team as required;<br />

4. Request additional Support Modules as required.<br />

D1.4 Demobilisation<br />

1. Manage the VO and post regular situation updates;<br />

2. Provide support to UNDAC as required.<br />
