3. Medical Operations<br />
3.1 BoO<br />
3.1.1 Implement a daily health and welfare check for all USAR team<br />
members;<br />
3.1.2 Ensure compliance with safety and hygiene protocols;<br />
3.1.3 Provide continuous medical care to USAR team members, including<br />
search dogs in collaboration with their handlers, and complete<br />
documentation as required;<br />
3.1.4 Ensure appropriate medical waste management as per team and<br />
affected country protocol;<br />
3.2 Reconnaissance<br />
3.2.1 A USAR medical member should be included in the USAR<br />
Reconnaissance team to provide emergency medical care to USAR<br />
team members as may be required. During the reconnaissance, the<br />
USAR medical member should determine if possible:<br />
3.2.1.1 Capabilities of available local and international medical resources;<br />
3.2.1.2 Assess victim handover options;<br />
3.2.1.3 Assess victim transport options;<br />
3.2.1.4 Assess deceased management options;<br />
3.2.1.5 Assess available veterinary facilities;<br />
3.2.1.6 Submit a medical reconnaissance report to the USAR Medical<br />
Manager;<br />
3.3 Work Sites<br />
3.3.1 The <strong>INSARAG</strong> <strong>Guidelines</strong> require a Medium Team to work at one<br />
work site and a Heavy Team to work at two work sites<br />
simultaneously. For the purposes of this document, a work site is<br />
considered to be the area assigned to a rescue group which is<br />
supported by a single equipment (including medical) cache.<br />
