W HILE empires crumble and men of
science ponder long hours over intricate formulas
and deal in the somber subject of nuclear
.fission, the world waits breathlessly.
Here at the University another group ponders
over a subject which takes all the skill a man
can muster. Up the turret like stairs on the
south side of Charles Hall in a rear room on the
.fifth floor, sits in distinguished assemblage­
The Chess Club.
Using the Maryland Chess Club as their
proving ground, the Chess Club has carried
the colors of Maroon and White nobly. The
past year has not been one of phenomenal
record breaking; yet the club has gained much
experience by playing Johns Hopkins, Loyola,
Maryland, and other organizations.
