OUR o A Y S OUR ALMA MATER has traveled far since those war weary, blustery days of '45 and '46 when we first knew her. From the congested corridors of Howard Hall, where horse shoe pitching was the most popular sport, she rose to a complete expansion of the University and the annexation of the new and modern A n 0 n I 6 H T S A T Charles Street building. Many fond memories and thoughts will remain with us through the speeding years, but the forward strides the University of Baltimore has taken, and we have taken with her, will remain everlasting. The reawakening of the athletic department, its expansion into new major fields of competition in the Mason-Dixon Conference, the springing forth of more than sixteen student organizations on an intramural, local, and national scale, the expansion of the faculty and curriculum in each of the three schools, has left the deepest impressions on the mind of '49; { 6
THE uniVERSITY and it is this paginated depiction that we hope this volume will preserve. We have departed from the conventional yearbook styling of categorization in an attempt to compile a chronology of student life at the University of Baltimore as we knew itand made it. Our emphasis has been mainly upon the interests and activities of the students themselves and, through this, we hope we have presented a comprehensive picture of the life at the University of Baltimore. A yearbook is the accurate history of the yearly activities of the student body, and the history compiled 7} o f BALTimORE 1ll this publication we have endeavored to make as accurate as possible. The success of our book cannot be judged by the work of anyone person or any group of persons, but by the entire student body and the graduating class of 1949; and it is to these groups this book is submitted for judgment.
