A description <strong>of</strong> the methodology used for the different working steps is specified separately<br />

for each <strong>of</strong> the major tasksin the chapters below. For results <strong>of</strong> the working steps see the<br />

corresponding chapters listed above.<br />

3.1 Methodology for source inventory <strong>and</strong> mass flows<br />

In this report a "source inventory" is seen as a compilation <strong>and</strong> evaluation <strong>of</strong> all known<br />

potential sources for unintentional production <strong>and</strong> releases <strong>of</strong> POPs.<br />

The <strong>identification</strong> <strong>of</strong> potential sources is based on scientific publications <strong>and</strong> the state <strong>of</strong> the<br />

knowledge as well as on recommendations <strong>and</strong> compilations listed in <strong>of</strong>ficial documents<br />

related to POPs or the Stockholm Convention. The following sources (liste in alphabetical<br />

order) have been investigated <strong>and</strong> influence the structure <strong>of</strong> various chapters <strong>of</strong> this report:<br />
