Chryshochoos, Joseph E. started teaching EFL in 1980 in both the private and the state<br />
sector. Initially, he taught secondary school students until he was appointed as a School<br />
Advisor. At present he is an Educational Consultant at the Pedagogic Institute, an<br />
advisory body to the Ministry of Education in Greece. Furthermore, he has also written<br />
many articles, presented papers at conferences, conducted pre- and in-service teacher<br />
training seminars, participated in the writing of textbooks and organised student<br />
exchanges.<br />
Čok, Lucija is Professor of Multilingualism and Interculturalism, Scientific Counsellor<br />
in the field of early multilinguality, and Rector of the University of Primorska. She has<br />
paid particular attention to the social, psycho-linguistic and didactic aspects of teaching<br />
and studying <strong>for</strong>eign languages; her research findings have been published in numerous<br />
papers in French, Italian and English. She has lectured at <strong>for</strong>eign universities, has been<br />
responsible <strong>for</strong> national development projects, and has coordinated international<br />
projects. She is a member of numerous boards of experts that have prepared research<br />
and education policy in Slovenia as well a member of High Assessment panels within<br />
the directorates of <strong>European</strong> Commission.<br />
From 2000–2002, she was a member of the Slovenian Government. As Minister of<br />
Education, Science and Sport, she contributed to re<strong>for</strong>ms in the educational system,<br />
participated in the drawing up of national strategies related to the integration of<br />
Slovenia in <strong>European</strong> Research Area (ERA) and the <strong>European</strong> Higher Education Area<br />
(EHEA). For her work she has received high awards: in 2005, Knight of the Order of<br />
the Grand Cross of Merit of the Republic of Italy (Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana)<br />
and in 2006, Knight of the Legion of Honour (Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur) by the<br />
President of the Republic of France.<br />
Cross, Roy has been Director, British Council Scotland since September 2005, based in<br />
Edinburgh, where he leads a team of 60 colleagues working on a range of Scottish, UK<br />
and EU-funded projects and programmes in education, governance, languages, science<br />
and the arts. His involvement with the ECML dates back to 1995 when he was working<br />
in Bucharest and was invited to join the Romanian team attending the first annual<br />
colloquy. Since that time he has been both a fan and a co-worker, reviewing project<br />
proposals <strong>for</strong> the second and third medium-term programmes and acting as consultant<br />
to the Secretariat on a cluster of projects during the 2004-2007 programme.<br />
Dawson, Ciaran holds BA and DPhil in Irish from the University of Ulster and<br />
Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the<br />
National University of Ireland. Since 1997 he has been working in University College<br />
Cork as co-ordinator <strong>for</strong> the use of ICT in the <strong>Centre</strong> <strong>for</strong> Oral Irish and as a member of<br />
the University's Teaching and Learning team. He has been teaching Irish language to<br />
non-Irish nationals since 1988. He teaches Irish language annually in Germany and<br />
Spain.<br />
