UNIT CHARACTERISTICS<br />

<strong>The</strong> supply chain manager is<br />

responsible for specific activities<br />

<strong>and</strong> processes which can<br />

contribute to achieving corporate<br />

strategic goals.<br />

This unit is designed to provide<br />

students with an underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>of</strong><br />

strategic aspects <strong>of</strong> supply chain<br />

management.<br />

Students will analyse the supply<br />

chain to identify where value is<br />

added within it, identifying where<br />

<strong>and</strong> how strategic competitive<br />

advantage can be achieved.<br />

Students will be able to propose a<br />

range <strong>of</strong> innovative proposals<br />

which will allow supply chain<br />

stakeholders to effectively interact<br />

<strong>and</strong> contribute towards developing<br />

<strong>and</strong> exploiting opportunities to<br />

grow <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong> the business,<br />

through new product <strong>and</strong> service<br />

development, innovation ,<br />

diversification <strong>and</strong> differentiation<br />

strategies.<br />

STATEMENTS OF PRACTICE<br />

On completion <strong>of</strong> this unit, students<br />

will be able to:<br />

• Analyse the concept <strong>of</strong> strategy<br />

<strong>and</strong> the process <strong>of</strong> developing<br />

corporate strategy<br />

• Identify how strategy is<br />

converted into action through<br />

effective alignment <strong>and</strong><br />

implementation<br />

• Explain the contribution <strong>of</strong><br />

strategic supply chain<br />

management to corporate<br />

strategy<br />

• Underst<strong>and</strong> the nature <strong>of</strong> supply<br />

chains<br />

• Assess the role <strong>of</strong> strategic<br />

supply chain management in<br />

achieving competitive<br />

advantage<br />

• Distinguish <strong>and</strong> assess various<br />

models <strong>of</strong> supply chain<br />

structures <strong>and</strong> relationships.<br />
