netzwerk "iba meets iba"
iba HambUrg (ed.)
international building exhibitions are “booming” at
present. Such heightened interest mirrors a greater de-
mand for quality in urban development and architecture.
every iba is unique and unrepeatable; it makes an
impact because it facilitates action outside of customary
routine. However, does not inflationary usage and diffuse content
cast doubt on this very quality? What makes a high quality urban
planning project into an iba and how can the format's excellence be
guaranteed in the long term?
the basis on which to secure and develop the “iba” brand has now
been laid down with the foundation of the network “iba meets
iba.”
this volume documents the establishment and discussion process
based on statements by planners and architects and introduces the
core element of the network, “the Future of international building
exhibitions” memorandum. it sets down key points and voices recommendations
concerning the implementation of an iba.
dealing imaginatively with the extreme water
dynamics of the elbe islands in Hamburg
is one of the key themes of the international
building exhibition Hamburg within the
context of its main heading “Cities and Climate
Change”.
the WaSSeratlaS offers a new perspective on complex water-relat-
ed issues in connection with the elbe islands. in a combination of
maps, photos, diagrams and texts, it vividly depicts the interplay of
human influences, topography, and water with all its facets: the elbe,
harbour water, canals, groundwater, sewage, and floodwater. against
the background of the original, fascinating concept of water-land and
vital questions concerning the future, creative and remodelling approaches
to the water-land dynamics of the elbe islands are applied,
modified and developed in 3 x 3 scenarios. this makes the WaSSeratlaS
an innovative, interdisciplinary tool for the design of urban waterscapes.
