two men in their twenties and sidled up to one <strong>of</strong> them.<br />

“I need to see better,” she leveled with them. "Is this seat<br />

taken?”<br />

“Yes,” the young man said, pleased to be confided in. “An<br />

older woman in a fur coat is sitting here. But so far no one has sat<br />

in the seat just in front.”<br />

So Audrey slipped down to the second row and took her seat.<br />

All seemed to be well, when the usher with the mustard coat<br />

ventured into view, and gave Audrey the long glance. Audrey was<br />

on the brink <strong>of</strong> discovery.<br />

That was when she turned to the young men behind her and<br />

began chatting.<br />

“Have you been to many shows this season?” she inquired.<br />

“No, not at all,” the first young man said. “Rog and I have<br />

only seen one other show together ever. Tosca.”<br />

“Oh, then you must be loving this. Isn’t Gilda wonderful!<br />

And the songs, oh!”<br />

“We’re liking it very much,” Rog chimed in.<br />

And Audrey looked over her shoulder just long enough to see<br />

that the mustard jacket had decided that Audrey belonged where<br />

she was.<br />

The last <strong>of</strong> the audience took their seats, and the curtain rose<br />

over the salon <strong>of</strong> the ducal palace, and Audrey lit up with the<br />
