Integrating Information Technologies Into the Curriculum Plano ISD’s district-provided curriculum is fully integrated with appropriate technology tools to facilitate best practices for teaching and learning in the classroom, to meet group and individual student needs, and to maximize each student’s learning environment. The integration of curriculum and information technologies provides the framework for the following strategies/objectives: Focus on acquisition of basic skills, content knowledge and application, and higher level thinking skills. Encourage lifelong learning. Structure learning around meaningful concepts. Provide connections among the various curricular disciplines. Incorporate a variety of authentic assessments as an integral part of learning. Encourage active participation in relevant real-life experiences. Captivate, motivate, and challenge learners. Accommodate a variety of learning styles and multiple intelligences. Provide for deeper understanding of the depth and complexity of content knowledge. Offer opportunities for whole group, small group and individualized instruction. Incorporate technology as an integral tool for learning. Plano ISD’s learning-centered instructional program drives technology use and integration. The integration of technology and curriculum affects educational philosophy, classroom management, and curricular goals. Technology tools allow access to information and resources that are a vital part of every student’s learning experience. Students achieve content mastery at widely varying paces; the technology infrastructure facilitates differentiated instruction and supports students’ instructional needs. Access to the district curriculum is provided to all teachers and administrative staff through web-based Curriculum Planners. These online Planners contain the curriculum content for each grade level and subject area, as well as easy access to instructional materials lists, targeted Internet sites, streaming videos, slide presentations, curricular adaptations for special student groups, and support for using associated technology applications and tools. Each curricular component in the Curriculum Planners is linked to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The online Planners ensure a consistent curriculum throughout the district and therefore an equitable program for all students.
