3.1 Large mammals<br />
3.1.1 Sampling Sites<br />
Almost all the potential sites around Keenjhar Lake as well as in the buffer zone<br />
were searched to locate the existing large mammals and the GPS coordinates at<br />
different locations were noted. Different sampling sites and the distribution of<br />
large mammals around Keenjhar are given in Maps 2 and 3. GPS coordinates<br />
taken during summer and winter surveys are given in the annex document.<br />

3.1.2 Species identified<br />
During eight days in the field at Keenjhar Lake (four days during summer survey<br />
and four days during winter survey), a total of 26 animals of nine mammal<br />
species, belonging to three orders (Carnivora, Artiodactyla and Pholidota) were<br />
recorded from the study area as given in the Table 6.<br />

3.1.3 Observation records<br />
Out of nine recorded species of large mammals, six were observed directly while<br />
the remaining three were recorded on the basis of indirect evidences like tracks,<br />
faeces and interviews of locals and wildlife watchers from Sindh Wildlife<br />
