otter is trapping and poaching for its skin. Secondly, the fish farmers kill<br />

this animal and get the dual benefit by selling its skin. There should be a<br />

complete check on its hunting so that it could survive in Keenjhar;<br />

Reintroduction of Indian otter: Indian otter should be reintroduced in<br />

Keenjhar. Presence of an active predator will definitely affect the fish<br />

populations and fittest and healthy fish will be available in the Lake.<br />

Introduction of Indian otter in Keenjhar Lake may add to the efforts of ecotourism<br />

development in the area.<br />

3.2 Small Mammals<br />

3.2.1 Sample locations<br />

Map 4 shows the location of small mammals trapping sites for Keenjhar Lake.<br />

Details of the sampling sites can be found in the annexure document.<br />

3.2.2 Species account<br />

A total of 17 small mammal species were found in Keenjhar Lake during the<br />

whole survey. A total of 14 species were recorded during the summer survey<br />

whilst 10 were recorded during winter. The 17 species found in the summer<br />
