3.1.4 Conservation status of different mammal species<br />
Out of the nine recorded species, one is Vulnerable (VU), four Near-threatened<br />
(NT) and four Least-concern (LC) according to the IUCN Red List of <strong>Pakistan</strong><br />
(mammals) 2005. The Jungle cat and small Indian mongoose are enlisted as<br />
Least Concern (LC) while the fishing cat is listed as Vulnerable (VU) in IUCN<br />
international Red List 2006. The Jungle cat, Fishing cat and Indian pangolin are<br />
protected (P) in Sindh. The Jungle cat and Fishing cat are listed in Appendix II of<br />
the CITES Category 2007. The conservation status of mammal species found at<br />
Keenjhar is given in Table 8.<br />

3.1.5 Population Estimations<br />
3.1.5.1 Population of Asiatic jackal<br />
Population of Asiatic jackal was estimated at Keenjhar to be 46 animals. This<br />
estimation was based on records of howling of jackals at three different sites of<br />
the study area. Howling was recorded during 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm by three<br />
different survey teams during night surveys on 14 June 2007.<br />
During summer survey, in total 14 animals were directly observed. These<br />
included three animals around Dolat Pur village on northern side of the lake at (N<br />
24º 50’ .190”, E 68º 06’ .081”), four animals near Jhimpir village at (N 25º 01’<br />
