The Christmas markets and exhibitions
in the area are very inspirational
and intimate. On the Christmas Road
in the Paper Museum’s Town in Gråsten
you can be in a Christmas mood
all year round. See more on p. 61.
No matter what time of year it is,
nature here is a true paradise and
has many exciting cultural monuments.
Pick up brochures on the
area’s forests at the tourist office.
The Gråsten Forests will give you a
lovely time in nature with their large
carp ponds and beautiful lakes. You
can spend a lot of time here enjoying
the rich birdlife. There are more
than 30 round and long barrows and
in the Gråsten Forests, and, if you
begin your journey from the parking
lot on Felstedvej road, you will pass
Hjertehøj, the area’s most impressive
Bronze Age mound.
The Nørreskoven Forest is one of
Denmark’s most beautifully situated
beech forests and borders the sea.
When you drive through the forest,
you will find many little side roads
leading to the water. More than 80
cultural monuments are registered
in the forest, and several dolmens
were restored in the period 1934-50.
The three long barrows close to the
Havrekobbelhuset house at Nørreskovvej
road are among some of the
most beautiful dolmens in the forest.
