The BVA represents <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> home<br />
enterta<strong>in</strong>ment market. Our members <strong>in</strong>clude<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>UK</strong> distribution divisions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> major film<br />
studios and <strong>in</strong>dependents, television<br />
companies and <strong>in</strong>dependent video publishers,<br />
plus <strong>the</strong> manufacturers and suppliers to <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong>dustry. In all <strong>the</strong>y represent 90% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>UK</strong><br />
market.<br />
The BVA supports FACT <strong>in</strong> its PR and lobby<strong>in</strong>g<br />
activities. The BVA has also registered a new<br />
company, <strong>the</strong> Industry Trust for IP Awareness, a<br />
non-pr<strong>of</strong>it mak<strong>in</strong>g company limited by<br />
guarantee. It is an all <strong>in</strong>dustry partnership<br />
whose members contribute to <strong>the</strong> Trust to<br />
create an anti-piracy fund. The approx £1.5<br />
million budget will be distributed between<br />
contributions to FACT, to <strong>the</strong> Alliance and to a<br />
national consumer awareness build<strong>in</strong>g<br />
campaign that will support <strong>the</strong> Motion Picture<br />
Association's new anti-piracy c<strong>in</strong>ema trailers<br />
with press, posters and PR and a 4,000 store<br />
promotion to <strong>in</strong>crease retail and consumers<br />
understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> IP<br />
protection, <strong>the</strong> l<strong>in</strong>ks with organised crime and<br />
where to report <strong>in</strong>cidents <strong>of</strong> video piracy.<br />

The C<strong>in</strong>ema Exhibitors' Association is <strong>the</strong><br />
dedicated <strong>in</strong>dustry body for those <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong><br />
c<strong>in</strong>ema exhibition <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>UK</strong>. It represents <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong>terests <strong>of</strong> almost every <strong>UK</strong> c<strong>in</strong>ema exhibitor<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Odeon, Vue (Warner), UCI, UGC,<br />
C<strong>in</strong>eworld, National Amusements, Apollo<br />
C<strong>in</strong>emas, Ster Century and smaller circuits.<br />
In <strong>the</strong>ir conditions <strong>of</strong> entry <strong>in</strong>to c<strong>in</strong>emas,<br />
exhibitors rem<strong>in</strong>d customers that record<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong><br />
films and music with<strong>in</strong> a c<strong>in</strong>ema is not allowed.<br />
Staff tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g highlights <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong><br />
be<strong>in</strong>g alert to <strong>the</strong> possibilities <strong>of</strong> illegal copy<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and <strong>the</strong> action to be taken. The CEA<br />
encourages c<strong>in</strong>ema staff to patrol c<strong>in</strong>ema<br />
premises when <strong>the</strong> public is present and<br />
member operators follow <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry protocol<br />
for receipt, storage and dispatch <strong>of</strong> films <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>ir c<strong>in</strong>emas. Operators can act as <strong>the</strong> eyes<br />
and ears <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustry, report<strong>in</strong>g breaches <strong>of</strong><br />
copyright rules to <strong>the</strong> distributor, FACT, local<br />
licens<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>ficers and local trad<strong>in</strong>g standards<br />
<strong>of</strong>fices. The new rules under Section 182 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Licens<strong>in</strong>g Act 2003 will enhance <strong>the</strong><br />
importance <strong>of</strong> c<strong>in</strong>ema staff <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fight aga<strong>in</strong>st<br />
misuse <strong>of</strong> copyright material.<br />
