Swim-An image should be rock-steady on the monitor screen. Swim, like<br />

similar characteristics jitter and drift, is a measure of how much an on-screen<br />

image wavers over a given time.<br />

Triad-A triad contains three phosphor filled dots-one red, one green and one<br />

blue-arranged in a triangular fashion. Each of the three electron guns are<br />

dedicated to one of these colors (for example, the red gun excites only a triad’s<br />

red phosphor dot). As the guns scan the screen, each active triad produces a<br />

single color, which depends on the combination of excited color dots and how<br />

active each dot is.<br />

UVGA-Ultra Video Graphic Array. It refers to 1024 by 768 resolution.<br />

V<br />

Vertical Refresh Rate-See Refresh Rate.<br />

Vertical Scanning-The movement the electron beam traces across vertical<br />

phosphor dots on the CRT.<br />

VESA®-An acronym for Video Electronic Standards Association. The<br />

association that standardizes the graphics boards with both software and<br />

monitors. It set the standardized refresh rate of 72Hz for SVGA (800x600) and<br />

VGA (640x480).<br />

VGA-A Video Graphic Array (VGA) monitor has a standardized resolution of<br />

640x480.<br />

Video Bandwidth-See Bandwidth.<br />

VLF-An acronym for Very Low Frequency. Defines frequency range from<br />

3,000 to 30,000 Hz. This type of radiation is emitted from the monitor’s<br />

deflective yoke.<br />

X<br />

XGA-An Extended Graphics Array (XGA) monitor has a standardized<br />

resolution of 1024 by 768.<br />
