Seasons & Limitations - Game Rules - Rules Books<br />
NOTE: The sports presently authorized as requiring the use<br />
of registered officials are football, basketball, volleyball,<br />
baseball, softball, soccer, and wrestling.<br />
C. Schools that knowingly or unknowingly use officials in a<br />
varsity contest that are not registered with the AOA will be<br />
subject to the following penalties:<br />
1. First offense—school will be placed on warning for the<br />
remainder of the sport season<br />
2. Second offense—school will be placed on probation<br />
3. Third offense—school will be placed on probation and<br />
must forfeit the contest<br />
D. Any official who officiates a contest with a non-registered<br />
official will be subject to penalties that may include, but not<br />
limited to, a warning to possible probation for the specified<br />
sport season.<br />
E. A person who is not registered with the AOA and officiates<br />
a contest will not be allowed to register with the AOA for<br />
one calendar year.<br />
NOTE: All registered officials will be listed on the <strong>AAA</strong> web<br />
site. It is the responsibility of the school’s coach, athletic<br />
director, and administration to verify that all officials are<br />
registered with the AOA either by checking the <strong>AAA</strong> web site or<br />
contacting the <strong>AAA</strong> office.<br />
SECTION 2. SEASONS AND LIMITATIONS<br />
Rule 1. END OF SEASON. The interscholastic season for<br />
sports shall be defined in the Seasons and Limitations<br />
Chart. The end of the season shall be as follows:<br />
Senior High<br />
A. For football, basketball, and volleyball — Ends with the<br />
completion of the state championships for students in<br />
grades 10-12 and students in grade 9 who participated<br />
interscholastically with a senior varsity team.<br />
B. For baseball, softball, and soccer — Ends with the school’s<br />
failure to advance to the next level of competition for a state<br />
championship.<br />
Junior High For students in grades 7, 8, and students in<br />
grade 9 who have not participated on a senior high varsity<br />
team, when their school’s sport season is finished.<br />
Rule 2. PRESEASON / POSTSEASON EVENTS. There shall<br />
be no preseason or postseason interscholastic events<br />
approved for any sport except the catastrophe insurance<br />
fund benefit events.<br />
NOTE: The National Federation of State High School<br />
<strong>Association</strong>s endorses the UCA and UDA Nationals in<br />
Orlando, Florida; therefore, these are the only national<br />
cheer and dance competitions <strong>Arkansas</strong> high school teams<br />
are allowed to enter.<br />
Rule 3. PRACTICE EVENTS. No interscholastic scrimmage or<br />
practice events are allowed.<br />
NOTE: Any event between two or more school teams with<br />
or without officials or scorebook or uniforms shall count<br />
toward the maximum events permitted and is subject to<br />
season limitations.<br />
Rule 4. EXTENDED SEASON. The Executive Director may<br />
authorize extending the season by no more than two weeks<br />
for junior high teams in basketball and volleyball for school<br />
districts having multiple junior high schools, provided:<br />
A. Each exception desired is presented annually;<br />

B. Competition between schools is limited to the schools within<br />
the school district;<br />
C. The request does not provide greater opportunity for<br />
participation of individuals or teams in numbers of events<br />
than is available to other <strong>AAA</strong> member schools of the same<br />
classification;<br />
D. All <strong>AAA</strong> eligibility rules and participation requirements for<br />
interscholastic events are followed that are not specified in<br />
the request.<br />
E. The school district specifies an individual responsible for<br />
monitoring the exception and making such reports as may<br />
be required by the director.<br />
Rule 5. MINIMUM PARTICIPATION FOR CHAMPIONSHIP<br />
EVENTS<br />
A. No state champion shall be declared in a sport for boys,<br />
girls or coed teams if fewer than four conferences or<br />
districts enter teams. No conference or district organization<br />
may certify teams to a state tournament, meet, etc., if fewer<br />
than four teams participate in the certifying competition.<br />
B. In sports that require no conference or district certification to<br />
state competition, no state champion shall be declared if<br />
fewer than four teams participate in that classification.<br />
Rule 6. EVENT LIMITATIONS. The number of events allowed<br />
per team in each sport is found on the Seasons and<br />
Limitations chart.<br />
Rule 7. SEMESTER TESTS. Whether to schedule<br />
interscholastic competitive events during semester tests<br />
shall be determined by each local school district.<br />

Rule 1. OFFICIAL RULES BOOKS. The Board of Directors<br />
shall designate an official rules book published by the NFHS<br />
or by other organizations for game rules in sports/activities<br />
as indicated below.<br />
