Rule 4. LIMITATIONS. A student who is a member of a<br />

school’s team may not try out for, practice with, or otherwise<br />

participate with a non-school team during the school’s<br />

season, except he/she may try out for or practice with a non<br />

-school team on days when the school team does not<br />

practice or play.<br />

Rule 5. SUSPENDED GAME. During conference, district,<br />

regional and state play any game suspended without the<br />

required number of innings played to be considered a<br />

complete game shall be resumed at the point of interruption.<br />

Rule 6. NUMBER OF EVENTS<br />

A. Each varsity baseball team may play a maximum of 22<br />

regular season games with two invitational tournaments.<br />

B. Games played in a double header shall count separately<br />

against the season limitations.<br />

C. Middle schools that have a separate <strong>AAA</strong> membership may<br />

play in one tournament that does not count against the total<br />

number of allowable tournaments for a junior high.<br />

No middle school athlete may compete in more than three<br />

total tournaments including junior high and middle school.<br />

D. Pre-tournament games such as games leading to<br />

placement in a tournament bracket shall be counted against<br />

the regular season event limitation.<br />

Rule 7. BASEBALL TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURE<br />

Determining conference champions/play-off representatives:<br />

A. If two teams are tied from regular season conference play,<br />

tie-breaker procedures will be:<br />

1. Head to head in regular season conference play.<br />

2. If the two teams have split, margin of victory between the<br />

two teams, with a maximum of five runs per game.<br />

3. If the two teams are still tied, all winning conference<br />

game runs, with a maximum of five runs per game.<br />

4. Forfeited games. Offended teams shall receive five<br />

runs per game when tabulating the sum of the winning<br />

margins for breaking conference ties.<br />

5. If the two teams are still tied, a coin flip by the <strong>Arkansas</strong><br />

<strong>Activities</strong> <strong>Association</strong>'s Executive Director will decide<br />

seeding.<br />

B. If three teams are in a three-way tie from regular season<br />

conference play, tie-breaker procedures will be: Head-tohead<br />

competition. If one team has been defeated by one of<br />

the other teams twice, they would be eliminated. The two<br />

remaining teams would go to step two listed above for two<br />

teams that are tied. If step two does not break the tie, step<br />

three would follow, then step four.<br />

C. If three teams are tied and each team has split (or a perfect<br />

triangle), tie-breaker procedures will be: Margin of victory in<br />

all conference games, with a maximum of five runs per<br />

game.<br />

D. After tabulating the sum of the winning margins, all teams<br />

except the two with the greater sum shall be eliminated and<br />

the selection process shall begin again with paragraph (A).<br />

E. If four or more teams were tied, the margin of victory in all<br />

conference games would be used, with a maximum of five<br />

runs per game. Head-to-head competition would decide<br />

the two teams with the most runs. If these teams had split<br />

victories, margin of victory between the two teams, with a<br />

maximum of five runs per game. If the two teams remain<br />

tied, the team with the most total runs would receive the<br />

place for the first team (if both tied with the same number<br />

of runs, a coin toss would be used to decide the first team).<br />

This procedure would continue until all places were filled.<br />

Rule 8. CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKETS. For all district,<br />

regional, and state tournaments, the higher seed will<br />

automatically be the home team. If two teams have the<br />

same seed, the team on the top of the bracket will be<br />

designated as the home team. This will include state finals.<br />

SECTION 12. VOLLEYBALL<br />

Rule 1. CLASSIFICATION. Classification of schools for<br />

volleyball shall be as follows :<br />

7A, 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A (includes 2A - 1A)<br />

Rule 2. CERTIFYING TEAMS TO STATE TOURNAMENT.<br />

District or conference tournaments as authorized by the<br />

Board of Directors shall be held at least one week before<br />

the state tournaments. The <strong>AAA</strong> Board of Directors shall<br />

determine the date and site of the state tournaments.<br />

A. 7A and 6A conferences shall certify six teams to the state<br />

tournament.<br />

B. 5A, 4A, and 3A conferences shall certify four teams to the<br />

state tournament.<br />

C. The breaking of ties that occur in the order of standings<br />

when round robin schedules determine the placement at the<br />

next level of competition shall be resolved by use of the<br />

<strong>AAA</strong>-adopted tiebreaker.<br />

D. Forfeits. The score of a forfeited game shall be 25-0 (15-0<br />

in the deciding game of a match) if the game has not<br />

started. If the game is in progress, the offending team shall<br />

be awarded its acquired points and the opponent awarded<br />

at least 25 points (15 points in the deciding game) or a<br />

sufficient number to reflect a two-point advantage.<br />

IV, Sec. 2, page 44.<br />

NOTE: The <strong>AAA</strong> Board of Directors shall be responsible for<br />

the organization and administration of tournaments, meets,<br />

etc. and is authorized to formulate policies and procedures<br />

not otherwise provided for in conducting the sport.<br />

Rule 3. VOLLEYBALL TIEBREAKING PROCEDURE<br />

A. If a tie results, it shall be broken by the first of the following<br />

procedures that is successful in doing so. Three or more<br />

tied teams shall first be considered in sets of two-way ties.<br />

1. Head-to-head match competition between the tied<br />

schools;<br />

2. Head-to-head games competition;<br />

3. Winning margin total of all head-to-head games;<br />

4. A play-off match between schools involved in the tie.<br />

B. If a three-way tie is not broken by A, B or C above, the<br />

schools shall draw for the number 1, 2 and 3 that shall<br />

identify each school to begin the play-off, with 1 playing 2<br />

and 3 playing the winner. The winner of the final match will<br />

be the highest conference seed with the opponent being the<br />

next highest seeded team and the loser of the first play-off<br />

match being the third highest seed for the tournament<br />

position(s) available.<br />

C. This procedure shall be applied in the same manner if four<br />

teams are tied. After drawing numbers, 1 would play 4 and<br />

2 would play 3, after which winners would play one another<br />

for the first seeded position. The loser of this match will be<br />
