exploring ways to improve the utility <strong>of</strong> this capability before we adopt a subsequent<br />

round <strong>of</strong> <strong>certification</strong> criteria.<br />

Comments. Several commenters supported this <strong>certification</strong> criterion, but wanted<br />

clarification regarding how we expected testing and <strong>certification</strong> to be accomplished,<br />

especially if only one medication list was in use.<br />

Response. We believe that the clarifications and revisions to the <strong>certification</strong><br />

criterion and the discussion above clarify how we intend for this <strong>certification</strong> criterion to<br />

be tested.<br />

Comments. Several commenters requested that we clarify the meanings <strong>of</strong><br />

“medication rec<strong>onc</strong>iliation,” “transitions <strong>of</strong> care,” and “relevant encounter.”<br />

Response. These terms are not used in the <strong>certification</strong> criterion. We encourage<br />

commenters to review the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs <strong>final</strong> rule to<br />

see how these terms have been clarified in response to public comments.<br />
