8 Gimmelwald
Peace and authentic alpine culture in front of a grand backdrop
So much care and attention has been paid to the decoration of the facades of the chalets that
this small alpine farming village could be part of a museum. The village is located half-way up
to Mürren and is a prime example of the power and beauty of the glaciated mountains.
The idyllic mountain village is situated half-way between Stechelberg and Mürren, after the first
section of the Schilthorn cable car up the steep rock walls. Those staying here are so close to the
grand backdrop of the north faces of the Bernese Alps that it virtually takes your breath away. Walks
to Tanzbödeli, to Mürren and the Schilthorn, or the hutting tour through “Hintere Gasse” to Kandersteg
start here.
It is just the right place for families and guests not looking for great luxury.
Tip: Try the via ferrata from Müren to Gimmelwald and enjoy the spectacular views into the
Lauterbrunnen valley and a Nepalese bridge as the grand finale.
