In the valley of 72 waterfalls
Here the highest and most spectacular waterfalls plummet to the valley. The Staubbachfall,
Lauterbrunnen’s landmark inspired Goethe to write a poem.
There are a total of 72 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen valley, the most impressive and beautiful can
be found between Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg. Goethe was so inspired by the almost 300-metre
high Staubbachfall that he wrote the peom «Spirits over the waters».
Lauterbrunnen is the ideal departure point for outings in the entire Jungfrau Region. By train of by car
the village is a mere 15 minutes from Interlaken. Camping enthusiasts will find beautifully located
campsites close to the village and backpackers from all over the world gather here.
On a cultural level the village offers living tradition. The centry-old craft of lace making is still carried
out my local women today. Thousands of threads wound around a wooden stick are skilfully
transformed into lace and covers. In the Lauterbrunnen Talmuseum there are several objects that
used to be used by farming families. Even a hotel room dating from the beginnings of tourism in the
19th Century is on display.
Tip: At the Staubbachfall a gallery leads up to the rock face and near the water one can feel the
Gischt that, according to experts in strength places, radiates positive energies.
