station, lies on your doorstep and the Lauberhorn Trail allows you to experience the World Cup
Ski Race on foot.
Wengen is famous throughout the world for winter sports and winter sports icons. Karl Molitor, inventor
of ski boots with buckles, was born in Wengen. With his eleven victories at the Lauberhorn Downhill
Race and two medals at the Olympic Games in St. Moritz in 1948, he remains the most successful
skier in the over 80-year history of the Lauberhorn Races. However, Wengen with its friendly character
does not lack appeal in summer either. The Wengen – Männlichen cable car and the Wengeneralp
railway to Kleine Scheidegg and on to the Jungfraujoch make it easy to do excursions on foot or on
two wheels.
Every year in September the world‘s most beautiful marathon, the Jungfrau Marathon, passes through
the village. The fantastic mountain backdrop accompanies the 4000 participants on their way from
Interlaken via Lauterbrunnen and Wengen up to the Kleine Scheidegg. Besides the 42,195 kilometres,
there is a climb of 2,000 metres to be negotiated.
