REC 4 - Conservation Education<br />

Visitors have a greater understanding about the significance and importance of forest<br />

ecosystems, heritage resources, and the interrelationship between people and the natural<br />

environment:<br />

• The <strong>Forest</strong> Service plays a leadership role in the development of strong, well-supported<br />

conservation education partnerships with nonprofit groups, volunteer groups,<br />

communities, governments, organization camps, school districts, universities, colleges,<br />

and private entities, while emphasizing and enhancing the capability of field program and<br />

project delivery, especially to underserved populations. Coordination between national<br />

forests is promoted for maximum results and cost efficiencies of programs, projects and<br />

visitor centers.<br />

Goal 6 - Mission related work in addition to that which supports the agency goals,<br />

objective 3.<br />

REC 5 - Recreation Special Use Authorizations<br />

• Manage recreation residences as a valid use of <strong>National</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> System land.<br />

• Complete Recreation Residence Consistency Review and Continuance Determinations<br />

including Recreation Residence Compliance Inspections.<br />

• Manage all recreation special-uses in compliance with law, regulation and policy.<br />

• Administer all recreation special-use authorizations to standard.<br />

• Establish authorization holder responsibility for public education about threatened,<br />

endangered, proposed, candidate, and sensitive species approved by the <strong>Forest</strong> Service<br />

for recreation special-use events within all threatened, endangered, proposed, candidate,<br />

and sensitive species habitats.<br />
