CHATELÔT
10% Output increase on 50year
old power units
VA TECH HYDRO in Switzerland
has signed a contract with Société
des Forces Motrices du
Châtelot (SFMC) for the upgrading
and modernization of two 50year
old Francis turbines at
Chatelôt power station. This
power station is located on the
Doubs river, at the border between
France and Switzerland.
The scope of work comprises the
replacement of the turbine runners,
wicket gates, stationary
wear rings and labyrinth rings,
turbine main shaft, and adjacent
components. The coupling system
will be changed from a classic
coupling with adjusted bolts
to a so-called SKF-system with a
lean coupling cone and sleeve. It
was a challenge for our hydraulic
engineers to come up with new
runner blade and wicket gate
profiles, which guarantee the increased
output while reducing
cavitation effects to a maximum.
To avoid local cavitation due to
slight deviations of the runner
blade profiles, about 90% of
these will be machined on a fiveaxis
milling machine.
Technical data:
Output: 9.5 MW
Head: 94.45 m
Speed: 500 rpm
Runner diameter: 1,200 mm
