This week’s high man is Joe
Lopez with a 277-300-247 for
a 824 series at Rowlett Bowla-Rama.
Joe has two children,
14-year-old Leah, and 10-yearold
Justice. He bowls in two
leagues at Rowlett on Sunday
and Monday nights with his
wife Kerry. He is also a Service
Advisor at the Ford Dealership
in Greenville.
What is your high series? 879
almost 10 years ago at AMF
Showplace Garland. I left a four
pin in the 10th frame of the
third game. I didn’t get nervous
until I noticed that no one else
was bowling in the center, they
were all behind me.
How many 300’s have you
bowled? 17 or 18, not exactly
sure.
What ball did you throw?
Ebonite Game Breaker. I throw
that and the Hot Sauce mostly.
Dino set me up good with
those two balls.
Who drills your balls? Dino
Castillo and Tyson Branagan at
The Bowling Shop. I have been
going to them for a long time.
What is your all-time favorite
bowling ball? I have been pretty
happy with the Ebonite equipment.
I don’t know if I really
have a favorite.
What is your average in the
Sunday Mixers league? A 225.
What is your all-time high
average? 229, at Don Carter
West (now USA Bowl).
How long have you been
bowling? I started when I was
12, then quit for a while and
have been bowling for 11 years
since.
What part of the lane were
you playing when you shot this
series? I was playing outside,
pretty straight. I don’t hook it
as much as I used to and seems
to be working for me. I have a
much more consistent reaction
playing outside at Rowlett.
Who is your favorite pro
bowler? I would have to say
Wes Malott. I have spoken with
him at some regional’s and
he gave me some pretty good
advice. He throws it really
well.
Most memorable bowling
moment? It would have to be
the 879. I have never had a
whole bowling center focus
on me before. It was a special
feeling. I can’t say that I was
disappointed to have left that 4
pin, but it does sting a little bit
that you get so close to a 900
and cant finish it.
How much do you practice? I
really don’t. I guess I have the
Wes Malott theory, I actually
bowl worse the more I practice.
Do you have anyone who
coach’s you? My dad has always
helped me. Danny Kelch and
Dino Castillo, they have all

Joe’s tip of the week: The
best advice I can give is to
listen to those that have been
there before. Don’t give up and
keep working hard. Don’t let
the game frustrate you just
keep bowling. It took me a
