With his naive way of painting, Hans Scherfig is a true<br />
storyteller. His <strong>paintings</strong> appeal to people at large, to<br />
young as well as old. Everybody can go exploring in a<br />
world so full of colours <strong>and</strong> recognisable figures. The<br />
present painting from 1944 ”Urskov med gibbonaber<br />
og <strong>and</strong>re dyr” (Jungle with Gibbons <strong>and</strong> other Animals),<br />
in a rare large size, is a true example of the<br />
straightforwardness <strong>and</strong> the joy of painting Scherfig<br />
was so fond of. The clear colours of the tiger <strong>and</strong> the<br />
happy eyes of the gibbons yield immediate joy to the<br />
beholder <strong>and</strong> a desire to go exploring in the nature’s<br />
universe of Scherfig.<br />
